Vanitas Arts are Creative Producers with trans media skills. Based in the North of England, together we cover a lot of ground. Our working class roots connect us through our commonalties and differences. We are women who are over 40 who find ourselves in unusual situations. We are Black, White, Queer, Hetro women and recognise our LGBTQI communities.
State educated, we left our homes to train in London, Manchester and Leeds and have been collecting stories to tell ever since. We now find ourselves with a world that is willing to hear. Because of our own stories and what we have observed we are ambitious, determined and resilient. Our core values run as deep as the lessons we have learnt along the way. We have faced and witnessed structures from institutions and society that are anti Black, female, queer and working class. We strive to overcome them in everything we do. The teams we bring together both reflect and challenge us. We recognise artists and producers who have been paying attention to the world we all live in. We take the time to observe and produce for our audiences, our take on their lives lived. We do this to create a shared understanding so that we can move forward towards all that we could be which is better than where we find ourselves to be right now. Our practice explores the spaces that have been to date, historically ignored. we incorporate shared values of embracing and driving change, pursuing growth and learning, building positive teams, respecting resources, passion and determination, whilst building open and remaining humble whilst building open and honest relationships. |
