About Vanitas ArtsVanitas Arts uses digital media including video, sound and poetry to explore key issues that the artists have a strong connection to and are current global themes.
On October 25th 2016, in collaboration with writer Seni Seneviratne, Vanitas Arts launched the installation and immersive performance Lady of Situations as part of the Off the Shelf Festival in Sheffield. The piece explores themes of power and control, containment and punishment, gender identity, language and silence, trauma and recovery using ancient myths, which resonate with contemporary themes. It contains two mythical characters, Philomel and Tiresias. Delivered in a Vanitas style, it comprises of photographs, video, performance, written and spoken word/poems, soundtrack. Since then, Vanitas Arts have has been present in exhibitions and installations through digital media and performance. Vanitas Arts are developing new collaborative, cross cutting works that incorporate arts disciplines and TransMedia audience experiences. We combine new approaches to express what we feel strongly about. Definitions of She : Warriors Exhibition
Working in Collaboration with SAYiT, Sheffield; Definitions of She (2017) explores the theme of Warriors and what that means to LGBTQ young people (18-25) in the current political climate. The Activism through Art includes photographic portraits, video and live art demonstrating defiance, strength, visibility and empowerment.
